Access 2003 Label Report - Text Position On Label Question

D

Dermot

Hi
I am using an A4 page of 8 labels, measuring 99.1mm x 67.7mm.

I created a label report using the label report wizard.

When I view the label report the label text is left justified and positioned
top left of the label. (In the corner)

Question
How can I position the label text left justified and centrally on the label?

"Centrally" vertical or horizontal? Have you tried just moving the text boxes
left or right or up or down?

Thanks for the reply Duane

I have not tried moving the text boxes yet...I'll try that.

I don't really understand the position of the text boxes in relation to
their position on the label when the report is viewed in design view.

Can you help me understand this a little better?

I'm not sure what there is to understand. The report design shows bound text
boxes and their position in your report. The text boxes have Top and Left
properties that can be edited or you can just select and move a control/text
box.

The Access Label Wizard will insert the selected fields with the text Justified
set to Left and all the text boxes with the Left property = 0. If there is
enough room for all the text boxes, the top text box will be displaced down a
short distance from the top of the label, but not centered vertically.
Subsequent text boxes will be placed with their tops against the bottoms of the
previous text box. Text will print from the bottom of the individual text
boxes up.

If you make a print from this setup, The first character in each text box will
be printed next to the left margin as set in the page setup. If the left
margin is set for 12.7mm then the left edge of the first character will print
at 12.7mm from the edge of the paper. If you are printing 2 columns of labels
the location of the first character in the right hand column will depend on the
column width and the column spacing as listed in Page Setup.

You can change the text Justify in the text box properties, General, Left,
Centered, Right.

You can click on a text box and drag it to where you want it but the right edge
of the text box must not extend beyond the right edge of the column.

Thanks for the thorough explanation Chuck.

Is it possible in the label report to visibly see the ouline (border) of
each label.

Yes.
Open report in design mode. Click on a text box. Click on properties. Click

This generally corresponds with the size of your report section. What you see
is the label.

Hi Chuck
Thanks again.
I meant the actual edge of the labels, not the text boxes border.

Yes.
I draw four lines along the edges of the detail section. You can also make a
rectangle control, size it to the size of the label and make the back ground of
the rectangle control transparent. Outlining the edges of the label is fine
for checking how the label is going to print using plain paper. It is not such
a good idea for actually printing labels.

Hi Chuck
Thanks yet again
That's exactly what I was looking for....... so it's the detail edges I
line......
Yes, I just wanted to be able to see where the text is in relation to the
label edges, I would remove them once that has been established.
Thanks

Hi Chuck
Sorry to return....please advise a little further?
I tried placing a rectangle over the text boxes and detail area.
I set the background property to transparent.
The problem is that when I view / print the report the last address line has
a large space after the previous line. Removing the rectangle returned the
full address to be spaced correctly.

The same happend when I drew line around the edge of the detail section.

The rectangle method would be my prefered method but I'm not sure why the
last address line is detached from the other address lines when all text
boxes are viewed correctloy in design view through the transparent rectangle.

Would you have any further suggestions?

I don't have a clue. I've never seen it happen. The rectangle can not grow.
Is the last line still within the rectangle? Try deleting the last line and
see if the gap moves up to be before the new 'last' line.

If the only place where the problem occurs is the last line of a label, ignore
it. The only thing that counts is that the first line of each label be in the
proper location. When you take the border away for the actual prints, the last
line will be back where it belongs.
