I've been using Access 97 on Windows 95 machines connected to an NT 4.0
server. Rather than mess with database security, there were two folders set
up... the first with data where some people had change access and others
with read-only. Then there was a folder with a "reports database" for the
people with read-only access. This reports database had links to all the
data in the other database. It worked fine under the configuration noted
above (Win95). But in upgrading the client computers from 95 to 2000, I've
run into a glitch... Apparently the old way didn't care about not being able
to create a .ldb file in the folder where the database with the actual data
is at; users could get to it just fine. But under Windows 2000, they are
getting an error message saying something like the .mdb file is already in
use. (I'm assuming because it can't create the .ldb in the database we're
linking to with the actual data.)
Can anyone help, provide more info, or a workaround solution? Thanks in
advance.
