Access Reports like a telephone directory, i.e. two columns

I was an Access developer from 1994-1996, and now the prodigal son is
writing a database of students so I'm doing it again.

I'd like to do a report where the data is in more than one column. I did
this once in 1996, but that was a while ago and I've forgotten how. An
example is:

Name Grade Name Grade

Berty Dastard A Mary Hinge B
Cupid Stunt B Billy Sugger C

You get the idea. Would anyone care to help?

Hi Timothy,

You are describing a "snaking" report. To create this type of report, click
on File > Page Setup... Make a note of your current left and right margin
settings. Click on the Columns tab. Enter 2 as the number of columns. Enter a
column size that is, say, half of the available print area. For example, if
the layout is Portrait for 8.5 inch wide paper, and your margins are 1 inch
each, then you have 6.5 inches of available print area. Thus, the maximum
column size would be 6.5/2 = 3.25, with a column spacing value of zero. If
you add a column spacing, then you'll need to subtract out this space from
the available space as well.

Whatever maximum column size that you determine, you need to restrict the
layout of controls in the detail section, so that they do not run past this
boundry.
