Action Buttons

I want to be able to create an action button which, when clicked, makes an
image appear on the slide. How do I do this?

If you are using PowerPoint 2002/XP and above, you can use trigger to do so.
If not, you can make a link to a second slide with the image displayed.

To do the trigger:
Insert the image.
Then create the action button.
Click on the image and go to Custom Animation.
Click add effect > Entrance > Appear.
Right click on the appear effect, go to Timing.
Click triggers and select Start effect on click ok.
Choose the action button.
Click OK.

And if you are using PowerPoint 97 or 2000, you will need to use VBA to
have this effect. There are examples on my site:

You can start with Examples 6.4 and 6.6.

I am using microsoft powerpoint version 2003.

I am trying to use multiple action buttons on a single slide. Each button
would be associated with a picture. All the pictures are overlaid over each
other and are related. I would like to click each action buttom associated
with a specific picture and have it faded in over the picture that is
currently being viewed. It would be OK to start with one of them and then
select another one to have it replaced, but the previous one would fade out
and the new picture would fade in. I also need it so that any action button
could be selected meaning that the results of any of the other action buttons
could be 'being viewed' when another is selected.

I have created action buttons on another slide that brings me to this slide.
Another action button on the slide of interest takes me back. Can this be
done and if so, how?

It sounds as if trigger animations will do the trick for you. There are
quite a few trigger tutorials, but I can't remember the URLs right now. So
I'll just point you to this one: http://www.echosvoice.com/triggers.htm

Holler back if that won't do it or if you need more assistance with triggers
themselves.

So, this works as far as allowing one image to be displayed at a time. If you
take it into presentation mode it only allows you to select one of the action
buttons and display that picture. Subsequent cloicks on the other action
buttons produces nothing. You can select any one of the action buttons and
do it first, but then none of the others work. And they won't work again. I
really need the ability to select anyone of these overlayed pictures from
action buttons and select at will.

What you need to do next is create Exit animations for all your pictures.
Unfortunately, I think you are going to have to create several exit
animations for each picture. Let's take the simple case of three
pictures: A, B, and C. In this case, you will have three buttons (we'll
also call A, B, and C) which show the corresponding picture.

What you have done so far is set an entrance animation for A, B, and C to
be triggered by their respective buttons. What I think you need to add is
to set two more exit animations for each picture (with more pictures that
is going to be more exit animations). For Picture A, you need to set an
exit animation to be triggered by button B and another exit animation to
be triggered by button C. For Picture B, you need to set two exit
animations triggered by A and C. And for Picture C, two exit animation
triggered by A and B.

Now when you press button A three things will happen:

(1) Picture A will enter.
(2) Picture B will exit.
(3) Picture C will exit.

You should be able to click any of the buttons any number of times to
repeat the effect.
