Hi S,
Based on my experience and research, this error indicates that Groove cannot
connect to the indicated activation server. Common causes include:
1. An incorrect value for "Activation Server" in the Activate Products
window
2. A problem on the activation server
3. A firewall or proxy server that is not allowing the connection to the
server (Note that this can include a personal firewall such as XP sp2 Windows
Firewall or McAfee Personal Firewall Plus.)
4. A local Internet security program, such as Norton Internet Security,
blocking the content
5. A temporary problem at some location in the internet between your
location and the activation server
6. A problem with network traffic in your organization's or ISP's network
For more information, you can refer to the following Knowledge Based article:
http://www.groove.net/support/kb/detail.cfm/docnum/TCN-00743
Therefore, please refer to the KB article and perform the steps in it to see
whether we can resolve this issue.
If this issue still persists, please perform the followint test and let me
know the results:
Step 1:
========
we can test whether you can access your Activation Server: Please access
http://gms.groove.net/gms.dll via Internet Explorer. (For this test, use
Internet Explorer only; other browsers will return other errors.) If the
connection is successful, you will get the result page said "Server is
alive". If the connection fails, you will get an error page that says "The
page cannot be displayed" at the top and "Cannot find server or DNS Error" at
the bottom. If the connection fails, contact your internal helpdesk or IT
department, and tell them your PC cannot connect to the host named in the
Activation Server field.
Let me know the results. If it fails, please let me know the exact error
message.
Step 2:
========
If you have added Groove to any Firewall, Proxy Server or Anti-Virus
program, please refer to the following article to allow Groove:
How to use Groove through a personal firewall
http://www.groove.net/support/kb/detail.cfm/docnum/TCN-01836
How to install Groove on a PC with antispyware or anti-adware programs
http://www.groove.net/support/kb/detail.cfm/docnum/TCN-02145
Please check if the ports (2492, 80,443) have been enabled for Groove
communication. If it is possible, please disable the firewall or anti-virus
program temporarily and perform the steps above to test this issue again. Let
me know the results.
Step 3:
========
Please ensure that you do not enter any blank spaces in the activation
server or the activation key when you fill in Activation Products window.
This time, please not use copy/paste, type the activation key and the server
one by one and then try to active again. What's the result?
If you still cannot reach gms.groove.net server, please change your
activation server to activate.groove.net and test this issue again. Is this
issue resolved? Let me know the results.
