Adding 500k picture increases Word 2000 document size to 23mb?

I've been adding pix to Word 2k docs for years without issue. In the last
few months I've had issues with the doc ballooning on me. Same camera
settings. Sometimes re-naming & re-saving doc solves the problem. Any
suggestions?

If you have the picture you want on disk as a JPG use 'insert picture from
file' to add it to the doc, this keeps it as a JP and avoids using 'bitmap'
format that you get if you go via the clipboard.
