Adding transparency to an copy/pasted icon

I've got a PPT with a bunch of images that I want to turn into shapes.
I can copy and paste and that works fine however I get the white
background instead of a transparency as I'd like behind the actual
sheet. Is there a way add transparency to what is basically a bitmap
that has been copied and pasted?

No, sorry. In this case, edits have to be done prior to the pasting.
