Address Book & Opening Email

My biggest problem is that I cannot delete names from my
address list. The delete 'thingy' is faded at what seems
to be the appropriate time? Therefore I have removed
reams of names and addresses and have ended-up with
many "Unknowns" on the List.

Just recently I also must have hit something and now I can
no longer double click on a new piece of email to open it.
Instead, when I click on it, I get an entire drop-down
menu for each new piece of email and have to
chose "OPEN"???

In Outlook Contact information is added, modified or deleted from the
Contacts Folder, not the Address book view.
