Aligning Items on Back Side of Page

J

Joy

I do a lot of double sided printing (bookmarks, etc.) that
need to line up front & back. However, it's always been
hit & miss and never perfect.

Please tell me if there is a way to have items match up on
first & second pages in Publisher so that when I run a
page through twice object will be in align.

Thank you.

P.S. Looking for help soon

Firstly make sure you use a high quality setting on your printer - otherwise
the printer can be careless with distances and alignments front-to-back
Now make sure that the paper size set matches the size that is present in
your printer exactly.
Now set up your layout guides - this is much easier if you have your object
centred on the page, but can be done without making that necessary by
enabling two Master Pages with Mirrored Guides (an option in the Layout
Guides dialog)
Set the options to match the position of your object on the page.

Joy if you make the layout guides to suit your bookmarks, and align them up
perfectly with the bookmarks, there should be no issue.
I would suggest this is an issue with feeding the paper through the printer.
There are no known issues in Publisher any version that would create the
issue you describe.

If you have a version of Publisher prior to 2000 you may experience the
issue you describe, only if you change to another printer driver, or change
the settings of your existing default printer driver. Versions of Publisher
prior to 2000 were not printer independent.

If the object is centered on the page then obviously when the sheet is
turned over it will still be in the same spot. If this isn't the case then
all you need to consider is that the alignment on the front side will be
reversed from that on the back. Think of it like holding a book with
illustrations in front of a mirror. i.e. if the left side object border on
the front is 1.5" from the left margin, the right side border of the
backside image would be the same distance from the right margin. The same
applies if the paper is flipped top to bottom instead of just turned over
except in this case you would also consider the top and bottom margins.
Setting layout lines onto the page will help with alignment, but isn't a
necessity. Also make sure that your printer is capable of decent
registration. Be sure the paper guides are set firmly to the edge of the
sheets so there isn't any side to side shift of the paper as it is being
fed.
