All pcs crash, and go into maintenance mode

Sam

Hello,

May I please ask for your advice?

I got a permission to run my program on all pcs in a university lab during
the weekend. Those machines are running windows XP. I never had problems
with this code [when I ran it on Windows 2000]. I logged into all 60
machines, and started running my code on one of them. After about 15
minutes, I got a message on that machine - "this machine will restart in 10
seconds". The problem is that all machines got restarted. Even worse, they
had a message on them that the mouse and the keyboard are disabled, as the
machine is in "maintenance mode". I know I haven't exceeded any memory
requirement, and didn't try to save to a full disk.

Is there anything at all I could try to remedy this? Is there at least a
way to ensure that if there is a problem on one pc, that all of them don't
crash?

I would truly appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

1.) This newsgroup is dedicated to users of Microsoft Office.

2.) You have 60 machines that have no problem until you run your custom
application. The problem, therefore, is obviously with the coding of your
application.

3.) The fact that an application runs fine under one Operating System does
not signify that the application will run fine under all Operating Systems.
Although Windows 2000 (workstation and server), Windows XP (workstation),
and Windows 2003 (server) are all built upon the Windows NT Kernel, Windows
2000 has millions of lines of code that is new or different from Windows NT.
Windows XP, again, has millions of lines of code that is new or different
from Windows 2000.

I am very sorry about posting to the wrong group. Is there a WindowsNT
group run by Microsoft where I can post this question?

NO! I was Logged into 60 machines. The code was running only on one
machine. Is it possible to do something that when the code crashes, it
doesn't crash all of the machines?

Thank you.

Start here, Sam.

You'll want to post in one of the Windows XP groups. I'm thinking maybe the
one about "networking and web" might work.

Ah. I read it the same way. You may want to add this information to your
original question, as it seems to be what your question really is. Remember,
we can't see what you see there, so what may be obvious to you may not be to
us.

You may just have to resort to logging out and turning off all the other
machines, I don't know.
