All .PPT suddenly acting like .PPS

I had to rebuild my Win2K/Office XP system yesterday. I didn't think I did
anything different, but all .PPT files now open as slide shows and when I
press ESC to get back to PowerPoint, they close (back to the desktop).

Changing and re-changing the extensions doesn't help (.PPT --> .PPS -->
..PPT).

Can anyone help?

Sounds like your PPT file extension has been reset. Go to My Computer >
Tools > Folder Options > File Types and locate and highlight/select PPT in
the list. Click on the Advanced button. Select the Open action. Is Show
in bold type? If it is, select Open and then click on the button that says
Set Default. Now Open should be in bold type. OK your way out. Test it
again. Let us know if it now works correctly.

..PPT extension and was opening all .PPT files as slide shows! Curses!
