Alternate logo in merge document

H

Hector

Hi.

I have a number of merge documents in Word 2000. In the header, I have a
logo (let's call it logo A). I need to make an copy of these documents but
change the logo (to logo B).

How can I alternate the logo depending on a particular value in the merge
data?

Thanx!

Create two templates, one with each logo. Do separate merges, using the data
value as the selection criterion.

Hi Hector,

You could embed a mergefield pointing to the value inside an INCLUDEPICTURE
field, like:
{INCLUDEPICTURE {IF{MERGEFIELD Criterion}= "LogoA" {MERGEFIELD LogoA}
{MERGEFIELD LogoB}}}
where '{MERGEFIELD LogoA}' and '{MERGEFIELD LogoB}' are values held in your
merge source defining the paths and filenames for the logos, or
{INCLUDEPICTURE {IF{MERGEFIELD Criterion}= "LogoA" "C:/My
Documents/LogoA.gif" "C:/My Documents/LogoB.gif"}}
where the paths and filenames for the logos are hard-coded in the mailmerge
file.

Both of the above avoid the need to have two templates, and even allow for
different logos to be called from the same merge, depending on the
'Criterion' value set for each client.

Cheers

Well, I did not want to make the copies since the documents are practically
the same.

Thanx.

Ok. I'll try this.

Also, a co-worker suggested having one logo on top of the other and make one
visible according to the merge data. Is that possible?

Thanx.

What's the big deal with two templates, even if they are almost the same? --
You'd have the job done by now.

Yes, but it is much easier to follow macropod's suggestion.

Apart from the huge document you'll end up with, with a picture included
once for each record, instead of just once for the entire run.

Possible, perhaps, but very messy.

macropod gave you a very good solution. If you need to have no external
files (unusual if you are doing a mail merge, but possible) you could put
the actual images inside your IF field. This isn't easy to do or edit. Once
done each page of your merge will have both images in it even if only one is
displayed.

Hi again.

I have problems viewing the picture in the merged document. Though I'm want
to display Logo A or Logo B according to a merge field (using IF), for now
I'm concentrating on viewing the logos.

I set up the merge template document using INCLUDEPICTURE. I click on
preview and I see the logos (both of them). When I run the merge and open
the -mergED- document (it's merging to a new document), I see the
INCLUDEPICTURE but not the logos. I click on preview and only get the square
with the icon on the top-left.

I've tried the checking/unchecking the options recommended but no luck. In
the merge template, I have": "Update links on save" checked / "Picture
Placeholders" NOT checked / "Drawings" checked / "Update fields" checked /
"Update links" checked.

Anything else I can do?

Thanx.

Hi.

I read the article and check disk space. There were GBs available. I'm only
merging a two page letter since I'm testing.

What finally worked was to include two IF-THEN-ELSEs; one for each logo.
Not elegant but it worked.

Don't know what happened but I thought I should share the workaround.

I really appreciate what you guys do. : <)
