Always request "Save As"

Each time a user opens a document (all stored in a shared folder on the
server - Full share permissions) and then tries to close it. Even without
making any changes MS request that the user saves the doc.

This has only recently started happening. Most of these docs are static
info, Brochures, manuals etc. Any ideas how to stop this.

Thanks

What are the permissions exactly? The share permissions on the parent share
must be set to everyone=full control (or equivalent, if you don't want to
use Everyone - I normally leave this be). The NTFS permissions on all the
folders must be set as you wish - note that if you set "Authenticated Users"
or "Marketing Group" to have modify permissions, they will still get read
only access if the share permissions are more restrictive.

Don't grant Full Control to anyone except admins/system. Modify is quite
enough.
