Analyse Timscale data problem

I have a resourced project schedule the Gantt view expresses the work (days)
required to deliver the scheduled activities.
The problem I have is after exporting the resource information using analyze
timescale data I’m presented with a different man-day total, this doesn’t
happen for all my schedules but just occasionally for the more complex
schedules with lots of resources.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, I do have a solution but I need to
understand the cause.

any help is appreciated

Phil,
Are you sure it is not a matter of decimal accuracy? Project normally
only displays timescale values to one decimal accuracy but the
underlying data is stored in minutes. Also remember that a day for
Project is defined by Tools/Options/Calendar tab.

One other suggestion, it is generally better to export hours. Sixty
minutes is always an hour, no matter what the other settings and
converting hours to some other dimensional value is pretty
straightforward.

Hope this helps.

John,
Unfortunately this will not fix the problem, the schedule has been
contracted by someone else, it’s fairly large, there are 470 lines containing
4000 man-days with 140 different resources, the error generated is -700
man-days, the error’s are within approx 18 of the activities.
I fix this by pasting the resource name detail into a text column, clearing
the data from the resource name column and then pasting it back in, things
are then fine, any understanding you can provide to this would be appreciated.

Phil,
Are you saying, you can't export hours? If so, I don't understand. I
thought you were the one running the utility and if so, you should be
able to export hours, days or whatever.

Just for reference a 470 line schedule is not large but 140 resources on
that size schedule is rather unusual. Did I read your post correctly
that the difference between the timescale values shown in Project and
those exported to Excel is a NEGATIVE 700 man-days? What does the
statement, ". . .the error's are within approx 18 of the activities"
mean?

In your "fix" process what view are you cutting/clearing/pasting
resource name data? And what exactly does that do to "fix" what is
exported by the utility?

Your explanation provides more information but I'm afraid it raises more
questions than it answers. I understand that describing a problem that
is very clear to you isn't always easy to relate to someone else.
Sometimes it's a "forest versus trees" kind of thing - you see the trees
but all I see is a forest. Perhaps a more detailed explanation or a
sample of what you are getting would be of more help.
