Anchoriing Text Boxes in SmartArt

E

ExcelMonkey

I have inserted some SmartArt in a Word 2007 document. I have also added
some text boxes. However when I put my cursor above the SmartArt and hit
return to move the object down the page,my text boxes do not move with it.
In fact, when I keeping htting return, it becomes apparent that the text
boxes are not actually within the SmartArt box even though I thought I
inserted them.

How do I embed the text boxes withing the SmartArt so that they move with
the SmartArt when moved and reshaped?

Thanks

Two possible solutions:

1. Enable display of object anchors (Office Button | Word
Options | Display tab | check the "Object anchors" box | OK).
Click on the SmartArt object and see which paragraph it is
anchored to. Then click on each text box and make sure it is
anchored to the same paragraph as the SmartArt object (you can
drag the anchor symbol to a different paragraph as needed). Then
put your cursor above the SmartArt and hit return to move the
object down the page.

2. Select the SmartArt object and all of the text boxes, and
group them together (Page Layout tab | Arrange: Group). It may
be necessary to move the SmartArt object and the text boxes onto
a drawing canvas (Insert tab | Illustrations: Shapes: New Drawing
Canvas) before you can group them. Once the SmartArt and text
boxes are grouped, you can move the grouped object off the
drawing canvas back to their original location. Then put your
cursor above the SmartArt and hit return to move the object down
the page.
