Animated GIF pictures in Powerpoint

Is there a way to determine whether a GIF picture embedded in a
powerpoint slide is animated or not?

Thanks.

Run the slide show. If it's animated and you're using 2000 or higher, it'll
play.

Something tells me your question is deeper than that and deserves a better
answer, but we'll need more details.

The background of my question was that, using automation, I want to
decrease the size of ppt files by copying all pictures into the
clipboard and re-insterting them to their original location by "paste as
JPG". I observed that this procedure converts them to JPG and also
rescales them to the new size.

Of course, animated GIF images cannot be processed this way. Therefore,
I need to determine somehow by automation if a picture is an animated
GIF or not.
