animation and sound file timing

I have a presentation originally created in PP 97. Settings were perfect.
Installed 2003 and now when I do animation of my text boxes with an imbedded
sound file it cuts sound file short especially when I do the typing
letter-by-letter. I can't get the hang of the little timing thing on the
right side. I do know that when I added more time on between that text box
and the next all it does is give me more soundless time between animations.
I have been working on this for awhile now and can't get it.

Anyone know what I can do?

also. want to add. that I have a imbed sound with 1 animated text box, then
another. " We are closed on the following holidays:" this is using
typewriter. It quickly says "e" and then goes to next animated sound file,
zips or flashes and you see New Year's Day. It will only say "New Year's.."
