Archiving folders and subfolders - will my process work as intende

P

Paul M.

Hi, all,

My goal is to be able to do two things easily and quickly. The two things are:
- save (or delete) each email I create as I send it ("send and save")
- store most of my email on my hard drive vs. on the server

Others have posted code for "send and save" that only works if the "save"
folder is on the server. That is, having a pop up list of one's folders and
saving to a particular folder does not work for a hard-drive-based PST
folder. Going into View options for every saved message is too cumbersome an
option. So, I think this workaround will accomplish what I want.

The workaround:

1) Move all the folders I created for work email as subfolders under my
Inbox, therefore, onto my server.
2) When sending and saving, save email to these subfolders, use the "Save
and Send" VBA routine, which will now work because the "save" folders are on
my server.
3) Set up autoarchive on each of the subfolders under my Inbox (see step #1,
above).

I **THINK** this will move email from my server (the subfolders under my
Inbox) to my hard-drive-based archive on a scheduled basis. Is that correct?

A few other questions related to this:
1) If I set up archiving for a particular server-based folder, will all of
its subfolders archive as well, or do I need to set up archiving for every
subfolder separately?
2) Related to the above, is there any way to set up archiving for a group of
folders at once, vs. one at a time?
3) When email is archived, does it add incrementally to the archive folder
or replace what is there? Example: If I have a server and an archive folder
called "Smith," will each archive add the email from the server version to
the existing archive, or will it replace all "Smith" archive mail with the
newly archived mail?

Lots of stuff, I know, and I appreciate anyone willing to trudge through
this. - PDM
