Attachment displays as "not a valid web archive"

i use OE v 6, Office XP, IE v 6........some of my email attachments (forwarded ones) appear as grayed out powerpoint icon..when i try to open them, powerpoint opens, then i get the error message "not a valid web archive"...the attachment shows with extension ".email", not ".pps" or ".ppt".....how do i get these attachments to open???

What program is it trying to open them in and what type of attachment are
they supposed to be?

If word documents, in Word go to Tools/Options and on the General tab turn
on "Confirm
conversion at Open"...
