I Use OL2003 and compose messages in Rich Text format.
Why are my inserted files placed in the body of the
message instead of in a designated field for inserted
files? Is there a way to change this?

Use HTML or Plain Text instead of rich text. Not all email clients can read rich text. Look up rich text format in Help for an explanation.
