Auto Configure Startup Folder

J

John Davidson

Hi All,
Is it possible to auto configure MSWord to find a Startup folder on a
network drive when a new user logs onto a computer?
Currently I have to explain to a new user how to configure Word to find
the Startup folder on the network because Word defaults to the newly
created personal folders on the Local HDD.
TIA John D.

this is fairly easy to do at deployment, but it sounds like you are past
deploying the app. So, afterwards, you can modify the following registry key
(for Word 2003):
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options\Startup-Path\ to point at
the desired network location.

Thanks,
I will take that onboard via a VBA macro, but what do you mean by
deployment and how is it done then?
Is it an option available when Word is installed?

Yes. If you deploy Office using the Custom Install Wizard (CIW) which is
part of the Office Resource Kit, available for download from MS' Office
website. The CIW is used to build a deployment package for Office, in which
you can conttrol many of the Tools, Options settings, including the startup
folder for Word.
