Auto update book Index with Page Numbers ???

Can Word be setup to automatically keep the page numbers updated in the...

.... index of a book
.... table of contents

If so, can someone give me a hint.

All these fields will update at print time (provided you have "Update
fields" checked on the Print tab of Tools | Options). You can update them
explicitly using F9.
