automatic layout for inserted objects

why in PPT 2003, I have a check in my "auto layout for inserted objects" yet
it does not change the layout like it is suppose to - I thought I read that
this was a glitch in 2003 - no smart tag pops up to ask me if I want to
change back to the old layout - yet the box is checked - any help?

I don't think it's actually a glitch. This behavior was changed from the way
PPT 2002 behaved because of customer complaints -- people didn't understand
why, when they inserted pictures, everything on their slide moved around.
