Automatic word selection in Outlook

Using Outlook 2003, I've gone to Tools / Options / Other / Advanced
Options and cleared the "When selecting text, automatically select
entire word" box, but Outlook still selects entire words. Is there
something I'm missing here?

Also, is there some way to turn this "feature" off in Internet Explorer
also? It's been irritating me for years.

Did you stop and restart Outlook? Are you selecting in Word or in an
Outlook window?

Yes, I restarted Outlook. It is in an Outlook message window - whether
composing a new message (using Outlook as the editor) or reading an old
one (in a message window or in the reading pane). This happens with my
Outlook at home and at work.

Alas, I cannot reproduce the issue.
