automatically retrieving email

Go to Tools | Send/Receive | Send/Receive Settings | Define Send/Receive
Groups, and clear the checkbox for "Schedule an automatic send/receive every
XX minutes". (This setting controls whether or not a send/receive is done
at startup, also.)
