Autosize Image

I have some images that were taken at high resolution and are nearly 1000
pixels wide. I need for these to fit into a table cell.
I can insert the image, resize it to what looks about right and then
resample but the results are different based on the resolution of the users
browser.

Is there some way I can insert the image and configure it fill the available
space in the cell without making it an explicit size? I'll be happy to do
some more reading on this if there is a discussion somewhere.

TIA

You can but you really don't want to.
Forcing the browser to resize images usually ruins the quality, and also
causes the visitors browser to download the full size image from the server.

Resize / Resample the images to the size you're actually going to display using an image
editor.
Doing so will lower your bandwidth usage and also make the pages load faster.
An excellent free one is IrfanView.
