Are you getting a specific error?

Check the info on renaming the AVI at
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointtips.htm It's near the bottom

most digital cameras which include a quick capture movie option create avis
which are mjpg

there is a free mjpg codec at www.morgan-multimedia.com

if its an acutal dv camcoder then do with the mvps answer

you rename the extension to fool mplay32 into using the mciqtz32.dll instead
of mciavi32.dll
this works with most avis that give the error in mplay32 (start -> run ->
mplay32) (winxp)
vids: dvsd

I suspect you are getting the error
vids:mjpg

in which case you need to codec
