AVI Files won't play in Powerpoint 2003

I made many presentations in Powerpoint XP which have avi
files inserted. I now have Powerpoint 2003 and am unable
to view these clips. Whenever I click on them, I get a
blank, black window. I've tried to make new slide shows
inserting other avi clips with the same problem. Any
suggestions?
