AVI won't play twice?

I have XP Powerpoint on Windows 98. I inserted a short AVI clip in a
looping presentation. The clip plays fine when the presentation is
started but then stops at the title screen of the AVI when it comes up
again. Any suggestions? I also tried to put this AVI into a
presentation by itself but couldn't get it to loop.

You have to put a blank slide before the slide with the
AVI clip. Return to the blank slide.

I did put a blank screen in front of the one I tried to loop. It
didn't help. I'll try it in the presentation tomorrow, but it already
has a simple slide in front of it.
