avoid new baseline

MAT

Hi
As you know, the PMs can save anytime the baseline. It is ofcource important
that the PM saves the basline befor publishing the project and do not make
anychange if is is not necessary, so that the directors can check everything
(for examle with portfolioanalyser)
I noticed that some of our PMs reflesh the baseline althought it is not
necessary. Because of that we see as if everthing is always OK.
So I want to avoid that the PMs save the baseline more times. I mean They
should do it jsut one time in the phase of planning. and after publishing
they should not do this again..
Is that possible?
Thanks.

You can't protect a baseline I'm afraid. However, I usually save the
baseline for the first phase in Baseline1 and for the second phase or
iteration in Baseline2 and so on. I can then reset the baseline weekly for
time critical projects and see if I'm tracking okay.

This is a training issue rather than a software issue, probably due to a
lack of understanding on the PM's part as to just what a baseline is, what
it is used for, and why it normally should never change. Because Project
can't prevent someone from over-writing an existing baseline, you need to
train the PMs not to do it and make sure they understand why.

Thanks for the Answers..
I know that a good PM would not save the baseline all the time. But some of
them do that although I warn them..
So I thought, maybe there is a way to do this witj Project.
Normally I can avoid that the PMs save any Baseline with taking the right in
PWA-Administraion. But would it be possible that I (admin) open the published
projects and just save the baseline?

Hi Mat,

If your training/discipline doesn't work, you need to keep a backup for
reloading when they disobey. Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please
see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs, companion products and other
useful Project information can be seen at this web address:
