Baffled by autocorrect

Hi. I am new to board and hope someone out there can help me with this
dilemna. I have created an autocorrect entry that will replace > with
a period. When I type one >, it works fine, but if I do a series, I
get this: .>.>.>.>.>.>. I have checked and unchecked just about
every option in the Autocorrect dialog box including most of the
options on the Autoformat and Autoformat as you type tabs. I am using
Word 2002. Any thoughts??
Thanks a bunch,
Connie

Don't use autocorrect. Use Edit... Replace. Type > in the Find What window
and put . in the Replace With window. Click on Replace All button and it
will do a global change throughout your document. You can even use it for a
global delete. Example: I made a list of all the mp3 songs on a CD I
burned. Every filename ended in .mp3. I didn't need every blessed filename
ending in .mp3 because I knew they were all music. So I typed .mp3 in the
Find What window and left the Replace With window blank. I clicked on
Replace All and it basically deleted all the .mp3 entries thoughout the
document.

Thanks Darrell. I hadn't thought of telling him to find and replace.
I ended up telling the user to just type the period!! It looks like
autocorrect works when you finish the word, so it doesn't recognize
the > as an autocorrect entry until I end it with another word (or in
this case, symbol).
