BCM for recruitment database / applicant tracking system / ATS/CMS

Hi.

I'm a recruiter/headhunter in NYC and I'm a big outlook contacts user as my
current database (6000+ contacts) and a big fan of custom forms for Jobs /
Candidates / Interviews / Placements / etc... I was thinking about utilizing
BCM as an applicant tracking/candidate management system and wanted to get
some feedback. Has anyone done this? Would you recommend it? Who can
customize it for me? How much customization is needed?

Look forward to your thoughts...

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Tom

Tom,
I'm in the staffing business as well and a long time OL user. I've
been using BCM to track client activity for 4-5 months and have already
had several major problems with it. BCM uses things like MS Desktop
Engine, SQL Server, and .Net Framework which, it seems to me contribute
to stability problems. Coupled with the fact that customizing BCM is
limited (I don't hink you can customize or create new forms), I would
advise against using it for something as critical to a recruiter as a
candidate database. I've found that a combination of OL to strore
records on important candidates, Resume Grabber to add candidate
records to OL, and the Yahoo Desktop Search for quick retrieval is an
effective way to manage my candidates. I'd steer clear of using BCM.
I'm now in the process of extracting important information about
clients to put back into OL and will uninstall it as soon as that
process is done.

Good luck, and remember, backup, backup, backup!!!

Thank you Ken...some interesting info. Truthfully, as a long time Outlook
user and champion, I'm disappointed...I was hoping for better news about BCM.

For me...I use a customized a contact card w/ a date stamp for my
candidates/managers. Specically on the contact card, I use the notes field
for both resume and notes(w/ time/date). For Reqs I use a customized 'task'
form and I link them by using the 'contact' button at the bottom of the card
so I can track SUBs...I log INTs in calendar. I use the advance search
feature to search and/or 3rd party software. I would really like a way to run
reports...any ideas?
Also, I'm thinking how I can make it multi user and have security so nobody
can copy/export the info - any ideas?

Just curious...How do you utilize Outlook? Do you use contacts or do you
store candidate info in emails?
