Blank Graphs and Charts in PowerPoint

Charles

PowerPoint is not displaying graphs and charts on one of our computers. The
same .ppt file displays the graphs and charts on other computers.

Please advise of any suggestions.

You're using PPT 2003, aren't you? Install SP-1. That usually resolves these
"missing stuff" issues.

I have no idea, then. Maybe it's a permissions issue like Gary's seeing with
clipart in a thread just above (or below) this one.

If you temporarily make the user an admin, do the graphs show?

Can you also go to Help/About just to double-check that SP1 has been
installed for Office 2003?

Thanks again for looking into this.

The user is the admin on the system.

Confirmed Office 2003 SP1.

Do you know anything about the software engine that displays charts and
graphs?

No, I don't really know anything about the charting engine. It's the same as
Excel uses, but in PPT we have fewer options exposed, because our datasheet
can't do calculations or anything like that. It's simply just a data holder.

Thanks for confirming SP1. I know we had a bunch of systems at the office
where our IT staff swore they had SP1 installed, but when we checked
(because of issues with graphs and pictures not showing up), there was no
SP1.

Oh, you know, try lowering hardware acceleration.

It's an easy thing to try and just might resolve the problem.

This seemed to fix the problem, although I went into the system profile and
indicated that it was a notebook computer not being docked.

Just for others benefit I went to:

Control Panel
System Properties
Hardware
Hardware Profiles
Properties of the current profile
Checked off "This is a portable computer" and "Always nclude this profile as
an option when Windows starts"

Ahhhhh, very interesting. Thanks for letting us know what worked for you,
Charles. Sorry I didn't suggest Hardware Acceleration earlier -- it's
usually one of the first things I think of when it comes to weird display
stuff!
