Is theere some sort of switch or command that will truncate a resulting
bookmark to just the first character.

I want a client's middle initial to appear in a document, not the full
middle name. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi =?Utf-8?B?ZXJuaWV3eWxlc0Bob3RtYWlsLmNvbQ==?=,

I'm afraid Word's string manipulation in fields is close to non-existant.
The only way that occurs to me would be a set of (nested) IF fields,
similar to this (but checking for all letters of the alphabet):

{ IF "Best"="A*" "A" "{ IF "Best" = "T*" "T" "?" }" }

Note that you're limited to a maximum of 19 nesting levels, so you'd have
to break this down. Or just create a set of 26 fields and maybe put them
all in a QUOTE field (to make it easier to keep things together):

{ Quote { IF "Best"="A*" "A" "" }{ IF "Best" = "B*" "B" "" }{ IF "Best" =
"C*" "C" "" } }
Is theere some sort of switch or command that will truncate a resulting
bookmark to just the first character.

I want a client's middle initial to appear in a document, not the full
middle name.
