I just got a new laptop w/o office installed. It has Vista and pretty much
nothing else. Years ago I bought Office XP Standard. I want to install this
on my new laptop, but MS put that now legally-repelled one-time product
activation on Office XP. Does anyone know if MS will give me another
activation for this Office XP I OWN so I can use it on my new laptop? Or do
I just have a worthless coaster now? Thanks!

If online activation tells you that you've used up your license, you should also
see a telephone number. Call and explain that you're transferring Office to the
new computer.

If your copy of Office was an OEM version, you can't move it to another
computer. (BTW, you don't own the software, Microsoft is granting you a
license to use it and you agreed to those terms. Seriously, read the license
agreement - and remember that I'm not the person who wrote them.)
