Brackets in Office 2000

In Office 2000 I need to have brackets for negative currency.

I have tried format>cells>numbers

I have also tried changing regional currency settings at the Windows 2000
level.

But no luck, I know I can do it with a custom format, but would rather just
have the option of using brackets.

Parenthesis are the normal method.

Parenthesis, then...Does anybody know how I can get parenthesis around
negative numbers?

"Format, Cell, Number"

Then pick either red or black with Parenthesis in the Negative number box.

I have tried that, as written below, that option does not exist for me.

I don't know how it is broken then. Please select "Help", "Detect and
Repair". If that does not fix it perhaps someone else has an idea as to
the cause of the problem.
