Build a search tool in excel

Is there any way I can build a search tool in excel so that I ca
retrieve data from another sheet. i.e. the search tool is built i
sheet1 and it can filter and retrieve data from sheet2.


Also is there a way of setting excel so that regardless of what sheet
may save the document it ALWAYS opens on sheet1.

You can do this with Advanced Filters and programming. There are some
sample workbooks here:

Under Filters, look for 'Product List by Category' and 'Filter Rows for
Text String'
