business cards are not correctly centered, what to do?

R

RHC

Using default settings with 8879 Avery GLOSSY templates. Have a 1/8 or so
inch white border to left of all cards plus the same border at bottom of last
cards. Assuming printer is not accepting feed quickly enough........ or what?
Thanks for any insight.

Thx for responding but ......... the settings are correct. It seems to me
that the printer is not 'grabbing' paper correctly. The cards begin printing
before the stock is centered correctly. Result is that I have appx. 1/8" of
ink at top on the border to be removed; that results in the same 1/8" gap of
white on the bottom 2 cards. Also I have the same gap or border of white on
the left side of the cards. I thought the original problem was a cheap HP
printer I was using, went to a 200 dollar HP 2575 All-in-one printer. The
exact problem exists but to a lesser degree. Is there a separate adjustment I
must make to the printer to accommodate a thicker card stock? First time
I've ever had a problem like this but in past I wasn't using a full-card
graphic printed to the edges. And I had a more expensive printer, IF that
makes a difference. Any more suggestions.
Thanks R

Are you using the right type of cards for your printer? There can be an
issue if you use stock made for inkjet printers in a laser printer, and vice
versa.

Yes, both are inkjet and I still don't have it aligned correctly. Sorta at a
loss. Both printers (one is brand new specifically for this) seem to be
grabbing too quickly and set too far to the left. It starts printing about
1'8" before the correct spot and printing 1/8" too far to the right. This
results in a white border to the left of each card and one border at the
bottom of the last cards. This is at least better than the cheap printer, it
began printing at the very top of the form.
The whole thing prints correctly on standard lb. paper so that only leaves
me with the impression that both printers aren't capable of handling card
stock. Agreed?
I'd take it to a pro printer but they can't usually handle Presentation
files without a lot of grumbling.

What do you mean by "Presentation files"?

:

Adjust the margins to compensate.

Check for an updated printer driver.

Check the settings and see if they comply with:

Here's I do it with Publisher 2000.

File
Page Setup
Special Size
Business Card from the drop down menu
OK

Create card.

Assuming you are using standard business card stock of 2 wide and 5
high;

File
Print
Page options button
Print multiple copies per sheet
Custom options button
Margins = .5"
Gap = 0"
Side Margins = .75"
Vertical gap = 0"

OK
OK
OK

And it's printing a sheet of ten cards.
Save the file and all the settings will be saved for the next batch
of
the
same cards.

You have tried 2 printers with similar results. That would seem to
eliminate printers unless you are using the same driver??

Is you PLAIN PAPER A4 or American Quarto??
Is the card stock Quarto or A4???

And as Joann asks, What is a Presentation file??
