Calculating Actual Costs

Emily

Hello,

I have noticed something in a plan, that I believe is not performing the way
I would expect.

I am using MS Project 2002.

I have a task, which is Fixed Duration, that has a single resource assigned
to it. This resource, for sake of scenario, has a Std. Rate of $1.00/hour.
The task has a duration of 5 days, which works out to be 20 hours or 4 hours
a day.

I recorded the task as 50% complete and I expected that the Actual Cost to
be $10 hours and the Actual Work to be 10 hours. In fact, I noticed that the
Actual Work and the Actual Cost remained 0h and $0 respectively.

I tested out such a scenario on a new plan, and as I expected, the Actual
Cost and Actual Work responded as expected.

I am not sure if there is a setting in my plan that would prevent the Actual
Cost / Work from changing, but if there is any help, I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks,

Emily

Look in these areas.
Tools/Options/Calulation (tab). Are calculations set to automatic or manual?
If manual, press F9 to calculate or use the Calulcate Now button. You can
change to automatic if you wish.

Tools/Options/Calculations (tab). Are you setup to have MS Project
calculate costs for you? It is a check box about half way down the page.

Status Date-- Is the status date past the start date of the task. Although
this will not impact a cost calculation, it will impact Earned Value.
(Project/Project Information...)

(Is your math what you are expecting?) A 5 day task with one resource
assigned is 40 hours/$40. I assume the resource is assigned at 50% units.
