Calendar event attachments always removed

Whenever I receive and accept a meeting request that contains an attachment
(such as teleconference details in a Word document), the attachment remains
in the email message in my inbox (which is not automatically moved to
Deleted Items upon acceptance if an attachment is present), but is removed
from the calendar event. Similarly, when I create a new meeting request and
add an attachment, it is sent with the meeting request, but lost from the
calendar event. In both cases, I have to access the attachment in my inbox
or Sent Items. If the event is not a meeting request and just an event, I
can only add an attachment by dragging it into the event. However, when I
do that, it expands the header section by the appropriate amount to make
space for the attachment name and the Add and Remove buttons, but I don't
actually see them - it's just the solid grey background of the header with
nothing I can interact with.

It has always been this way since I initially installed Office 2008 last
November, and as a new Mac user, I just assumed this was Microsoft failing
to provide something in their Mac software that is standard functionality
anywhere else. The Microsoft knowledge base suggests a scenario where this
can happen ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824881) when invitations are
deleted and then mail accounts synchronised, but that's not at all what's
happening here. That this article exists at all suggests to me that the
attachments are meant to stay with the calendar event and be accessed
directly from there.

I have a MacBook purchased in Nov-08, running OS X 10.5.8 and Entourage 2008
version 12.2.0 (090605), with latest installed Update 12.2.1 (Software
Update suggests I'm all up to date). My mail is downloaded from a POP
server (multiple, actually, for multiple email accounts), so I have no
interaction with an Exchange server. I also have a Googlemail account using
IMAP.

Any help would be most appreciated...

Thanks,
Dave

This is a default behavior in Entourage 2008. I would suggest you to upgrade
to Entourage EWS (Microsoft has incorporated this feature in EWS) but make
sure that your mailbox should be on Exchange Server 2007.

* EWS works only on Exchange 2007 SP1 RU4 and above .
