I use Entourage on my Macbook at home, and on a desktop at my office. I carry a portable hard drive back and forth between the 2 locations. Can I set it up so that Entourage will live on the external drive so that I can launch it from there and have the exact same thing no matter where i'm working? in other words, my saved emails, and folders, etc. Right now if i send an email at home, it doesn't show up in the sent messages folder at work. Thanks.

You don't want Entourage to be on the external drive, you want your Identity
folder (usually called Main Identity) to be there.

It is possible to do this. First make backup copies of the Identity folder
on each of your Macs. Copy one of your Identity folders (inside
<your home folder>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities
) to the external drive. Make an alias for the Identity folder on the
external drive. Copy that alias to the Office 2008 Identities folder on the
MacBook and your desktop Mac. Delete the Identity folder on each, then
rename the alias to be "Main Identity" (or whatever the real name of your
Identity folder is, if it's not Main Identity).

If you want the new identity to include sent messages from the computer that
from which you did NOT create the Identity on the external drive, then you
must export the contents of the Sent Items folder from that machine (before
deleting it, of course) and import it into the one on the external drive,
once you have the aliases working in Entourage.
