Can I change slide design after the cover slide

The corporation that I work for require all presentations to be branded and
to that end provide a branded ppt kit. I wish to use the front cover of this
presentation but to change the subsequent slides to make them more
interesting is this possible?

Go to View > Master > Slide Master.
In the slide master, you can a New Title Master.
Now, you will see a Title Master and a Slide Master.
You can then set lets say background, on the Title Master which will be the
first slide (Front cover), for your presentation.

Then set another backgrond on the Slide Master, which will be the subsequent
slides for your presentation. Now, close the master view.
