Can I do an automatic number on tickets I designed on Publisher?

I have designed tickets for a charity function. They are 2 columns by 4
rows. On each of the ticket I have put a placeholder for the ticket number.
I have been trying to figure out is there is a way to have Mail Merge or
another function automatically number the tickets. Anyone have suggestions?
Using Publisher 2003 from MS Office for Small Business 2003
