Can I download Office 2000 Profesional from Microsoft site?

No, you will need to purchase a new version. Either Office XP (if you can
find it at retail still) or Office 2003 which is the latest version.

You're assuming he's running a supported operating system. Office 2003
requires Windows 2000 (SP3 or later) Windows XP or Windows 2003.
