Can I install Office 2003 legitimately using a 2007 licence key?

Help!

I have run into the dreaded Outlook 2007 SMTP problem (0x800CCC80) 'None of
the authentification methods supported by this client are supported by your
server'. I have looked at the various posts and workarounds and can't
really risk spending even more time on implemnting something which looks
rather flakey (to an end user) at the moment.

I need to get my client onto a sound, reliable, operational platform ASAP.

He has a retail box MS Office SBE 2007 and I have OEM SBE 2003 media
available - can I simply uninstall the 2007 and install 2003, using the 2007
key to keep it legit?

We'll look at picking up 2007 in another 6 months when this issue has been
resolved.

Any help gratefully received

By any chance have you tried to disable your AV incoming and outgoing email scanning and disabling your anti spam filtering be it ZA or any other 3rd party program. And then check your outgoing mail(SMTP) and see if it goes out.

Hi Peter,
I have just tried disabling scanning of outgoing mail and it has made no
difference.

I didn't go into further detail as I have seen several inconclusive posts on
this elsewhere but perhaps things have moved on:

Sending and Receiving) works perfectly OK if I use ISP e-mail address to
send and receive. (receive POP3, send SMTP)
My client has just started with a new ADSL provider and therefore has an
e-mail address supplied from there.

The ISP requires clients to use their SMTP server and SMTP authentication.

I therefore set it up exactly as I have done so on Outlook 2000 and 2003
loads of times before - and get the error message previously advised.

There seem to have been quite a few people falling over this and it is not
clear (to me) whether Microsoft have picked it up as an issue. Personally, I
could not contemplate moving from 2003 to 2007 until it is solved.

Cheers JOHN

Hi John,

I haven't followed any previous threads on that issue.
If, in Outlook 2007, you've already turned on
"Log on to incoming mail server before sending"

(Tools=>Account Settings=>/Email\
[choose account] then 'Change'
then =>More Settings=>Outgoing Server
then you may want to post in the MS Outlook discussion groups using the link below.
