Sorry to disagree G&O, but having the Works version of Word will play havoc when trying to install any patches or SPs for Office 2000. It is better to remove Works, do a custom install and NOT install Word in Works, and then install the full Office suite.
It is a little tidbit I have learned through trial and error and getting the odd error message about not having the right file when updating a mixed Works/Office

| Both Works Suite 2001 and Office 2000 include Word 2000, and you will run
| into problems if you have two copies of Word 2000 installed on the same
| computer. The easiest solution is to choose "custom installation" when you
| install Office 2000, and make sure that Word 2000 is NOT selected in the list
| of components to be installed from the Office 2000 CD.
