Can I password protect an entire folder?

Can't seem to find any information as to whether it is possible to password
protect an entire folder, and if so, how to do it.

I don't think that's possible, but I might be wrong. You may be able to do
it with permissions or simple file security (right-click the folder). What's
best really depends on your situation.

BUT (and it's a big but), you should ask in a Windows newsgroup for your
version of Windows. Your question really isn't related to Office, and this
newsgroup is for Microsoft Office questions.

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx has
an alpha list of the MS newsgroups. Click the + next to the various
microsoft.public.windows options in the list to expand so you can see all
the newsgroups related to that version of Windows.

If you are using Windows 2000 or XP and have the NTFS file system, you can
protect a single file by setting a password on it. Check under your Windows
Help for more information.

And your Office-related question was...?

If the OP is using an NT system with NTFS for the file system, it can be
encrypted.

After furious head scratching, Bob I asked:

Thank you everybody for your replies. It did not occur to me (I'm a relative
novice) that since the files I work with are all Office files, the system of
passwording was not an "Office" thing but rather an Operating System thing.
You need to be patient with those of us who are not gurus, but simply users.

Setting encryption on single files isn't as secure as setting
encryption on directories. The OP wanted to encrypt a directory, that's
the most secure way to go, and Windows 2K and XP can do this. Right
click on the directory in Explorer, select Properties, click on the
Advanced button in the General tab, then check the Encrypt checkbox and
click OK. Follow the prompts in the subsequent dialogs. AND DON'T
FORGET YOUR PASSWORDS!
