Can I set up a single TOC for ref. from multiple word documents ?

I have 5 or 6 word documents each with a table of contents.Can I create a
single seperate document/file showing all 5 or 6 table of contents in one
TOC(for ref), without having to merge the documents.
Will it have the ability to be updated each time I update the contents of an
individual document?

Hi Stefan:

I read and understood the article you referred to in answering the question
put forward by medcroft87. I have, however, a similar problem I've not yet
succeeded to overcome, which is, to include, after the TOC of a MAIN.DOC the
table of contents of an ANNEX:DOC in the same directory. When I insert in
the MAIN.DOC, where I want the combined TOC to appear, the Word fields

{ TOC \o "1-4" \h \z \u }
{ RD ANNEX.DOC \f }

what happens is puzzling: a combined table of contents is created all right,
but ... in reverse order, that is, the table of contents of ANNEX.DOC appears
first and is followed, then, by the table of contents of the current document
(the MAIN.DOC).

Any explanation for this behaviour? How can I get it right?

Thanks and best regards,

Jorge

P.S.: oh, by the way, I'm using Word 2002 (10.5815.4219) SP-2

In the document containing the TOC field, make sure that the RD field
is the last item in the document (no text after it); then you'll get
the correct order of headings in the TOC.

Hi, Stefan:

Great, fantastic, it works! Thanks a lot. Now, maybe you could help me as
well in my question under the thread "TOC and unusual page numbering scheme"
(Search for "TOC" in "Word Programming" Discussion Group, almost on top of
the list). I would sincerely appreciate if you could have a look at it.

Best regards,

Jorge
