Can I use my Office XP upgrade CD on a 2nd home PC?

ScottyK

I am currently using Windows Office XP on my home computer. We just purchased
a second PC for our home office that is running Windows XP with an older
version of Microsoft Office (2000). I have an official (registered) Microsoft
Office XP Upgrade CD that has been succesfully installed on the 1st PC (to
upgrade THAT copy of Office 2000) Can we install this Office XP upgrade on
the 2nd household PC to upgrade THAT version of Office 2000, or do I have do
purchase a second (seperate) Office XP upgrade CD? The PCs are not networked
together, but are in the same home office. My computer installer doesn't
think it will be a problem - but I want to be certain. Thanks.

I seriously doubt it. In the situations where you can install Office on two
computers, one must be a laptop. Also, if it's a pre-installed Office from
the OEM (original equipment manufacturer), it isn't eligible for upgrade.

To be sure, however, I would not rely on peer support for licensing / legal
questions. Call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00
P.M. (Pacific time) and ask to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing
specialist. Worldwide
customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find
contact information in their locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free.

No. You need one for each computer, AFAIK.
If you have licensing questions regarding *any* MS product, call MS directly
to get the straight dope.
