can no longer edit incoming message

I searched through the archives and found this same
question, but could not find the reply ........

All of a sudden I have lost the ability to edit my
incoming emails - there's no edit option on the toolbar
any longer, and I have no idea how to get it back. What
have a done and how can I undo it - any ideas?
